1. T20 Cricket. Very predictable. Cameron Green has had a terrible summer and it continued... he just does not have the poise and composure yet. Rushed in from the start of his career, doesn't bowl, gets few runs and then as confidence fails, he drops catches. He and Cooper Connolly (4 ducks after seven T20 international innings) need to get back to Shield cricket. Dwarshuis gets the TFC award and Travis Head was a complete disappointment as our gun bat. Somehow it all just doesn't seem to matter to these guys - and probably not to the public either.
Maxwell needs to go. David was injured... and our bowling? Bartlett and Ellis...ho hum. Not quick enough.
Steve Smith enjoyed the sights abroad, but not to play him when the series was on the line was incredibly daft. When Renshaw is your best bat, we are in trouble, but well done to him. The selectors then drop him at the clutch time of course... A great win v Oman. We only beat the best.
Pleased to see Kurtis Patterson scoring runs in all formats - like the old days when batsmen used to have to score runs to make sides (Law, Barsby, Maher, Siddons, Love, et al). Highly talented and has come back from the depths of nothingness to excel. He will be in the mix for the Khawaja Test position.
The Womens T20 cricket team is not much better v India. They need to get busy. A poor series loss but T20 is a lottery. India are the kings and queens here.
2. Winter Olympics. A highly successful championship for Australia and lots of good viewing. An incredibly spectacular site. Milano Cortina reminds us of old cars we used to drive! Great to see such talent on those steep slopes.
3. NRL. Can't wait for Vegas this time next week. A sensational way to start the season (even though the two games seem a little lacklustre on paper). The media frenzy will be warming up this week...a whole week of publicity!
Great to see the generosity of the NRL extending to $100K for the pre-season for the February premiers! All covered by fines to players perhaps? The Eels are the pre-season champions. That will be remembered in September.
4. Six Nations Rugby. England crushed and Scotland surging. Incredible scenes. Hard to remember a crowd in rugby that loves a penalty goal more than the European crowds. We prefer tries. Princess Kate, for all her flair and warmth, could not inspire them either.
The Waratahs are playing a familiar song...early wins in a long season. Jorgensen is a high quality player. Oh boy, what pace!
The Brumbies finally beat the Crusaders at home after 26 years of losses. The Brumbies are always on song. An incredible franchise... like the Storm really.
5. EPL. Tottenham v Arsenal in the North London Derby tonight. Tottenham are in genuine trouble if they lose and Arsenal need the points to keep the distance from Man City. 10 matches left... the title is up for grabs. West Ham draw again, but edge closer to the fiasco of Notts Forest.
(The contested drop zone: Crystal Palace - 32, Leeds - 31, Tottenham - 29, Notts Forest - 27, West Ham - 25...)
6. LA Genesis Invitational PGA. At -17, Jacob Bridgeman surely cannot lose, but Rory hovers. But, if the weather switches or a lapse starts under pressure... Scheffler continues his incredible streak, nailing T4 ($900K) last week as well. His +3 first round here saw him almost miss his first cut in 68 tournaments, but has since nailed it to get to -5 with Min Woo. A big final round will get him in the top five yet again.
Min Woo earned $1.7M last week and had a messy third round. At five under he could get well into the cash again too.
7. NBL - Sydney Kings. Ending on top of the table after a stunning sequence of wins. Favourites for the championship? Looking to add to their five wins and three runners up championship record.
