Wrap - Tough Hombres and Bonehead

1. After posing the question last week of why Melburnians were so stupid with issues of racism in sport, Eddie 'Chins' Maguire answered it. He is smug and arrogant. Not until you ask yourself how it must feel to be targeted like this every day and week of your life, do you start to understand. What did Goodes do to have his name attached to this stuff?

By the way, would this have anything to do with a sport where record numbers of AFL players are snorting and ingesting drugs without penalty? Do what you want...untouchable...bad culture. Demetriou has reached his expiry date. If he doesn't know this, then he definitely needs to go!

2. NSW Origin. What a saga their camp is. More twits and tweets than anyone knows what to do with. Too many staff and hangers on. They bumble over a ludicrous selection of TWO players - Sutton and Reynolds, Josh - and announce the wrong bloke. Have not heard a word of issue from QLD. Of course this year's NSW camp will be 'the best ever'. The players are 'raring to go'...and on it goes. The build up is BORING!

At the same time, Souths and Penrith are poised to excel with Origin robbing the comp of sparkle. Do we really need all players out for a month and a half?

This George Burgess is tough. Possibly the best NRL forward outside of $onny Bill.

3. Clive Palmer. The wealthy and prodigiously stupid fool bags out Laurie Daley as 'a grub', tries to ruin the A League and tells us he will build the next Titanic. He then sets up the National Fat Arse Party. A pellet to his thick hide and rump might be the best solution. Hang on, he does that himself.

He nudges that Swimming Australia President as the goose of the week. What about him telling everyone he was to be called "donkey" because of the size of his manhood? Others suggested "bonehead" for the lack of brains.

4. Waratahs. Certainly doing better, but inevitably they lose the tight contest. Then they miss semis. When will rugby become relevant again?

5. Noticed NZ copped a caning in their cricket series v England. Just in time to extend the favour to us! Alistair Cook has the most brilliant Test record. 25 Test tons and averaging just under 50. Plenty more where that came from.

An ominous sign already seeing both Warner and Hughes getting out cheaply in the lead up game. Neither have the technique to survive in England on seaming decks. 2 for 5 will become familiar. Watson hit his regulation ton...sadly, when it did not matter.

6. What do you know, Canterbury NRL fans are at it again. Throwing bottles, lighting fires....how long before the late night antics of Greenacre Road come to a footy game? The new female CEO will fix it. By the way, Jamie Soward choked on the kick anyhow.

7. Sam Stosur. It's amazing how to win a major event in any sport there needs to be an alignment of the stars and it often is not repeatable. And so it is with Stosur. She has a tough side. Resilient. And then she has a wasteful, soft side. Playing doubles in the same tournament reduces hunger for mine. Although the Williams girls have been able to smash everyone in all forms for many, manay years.

Meanwhile the three best tennis players we have seen for a long time are hard at it again - Federer, Nadal and Djokovic...better than Borg, Connors, McEnroe...or Lendl, Agassi, Courier... Edberg, Cash, Wilander...

Then there was John Sadri, Brian Teacher, Fritz Beuning, Hank Pfister, Kim Warwick, Johan Kriek....

8. GWS. "Going Woefully Steadily". They are not improving and are going to have no one supporting them by the time they finally start winning. They may need to give out telescopes to those who do show up now. Crowds of 5,000 in Sydney are not uncommon...at club rugby. Even the netballers are attracting more people.
